Attack of the Autobots

About this time you've got to be asking yourself the perfectly legitimate
question, "PizzleWig Almighty, Danimal, how the hell many episodes of this
crappy show are there, anyway? And why the hell doesn't Megatron
just give up since he clearly has no chance of ever winning?" Sorry,
but that's actually two questions so you forfeit this round. That
means I'll just go ahead with the next episode...
PLOT SUMMARY
Megatron sneaks into the Autobot base thanks to his newly invented invisibility
spray. Once there, he implants a chip which will convert the Autobots
from good to evil while they recharge or look at online porn. The
Autobots begin wreaking havoc on the city while Megatron steals a satellite
which can somehow produce unlimited energy in a way that is never quite
explained. Luckily for everyone, Sparkplug dons his lucky brown shirt
and blue jeans outfit and whips up a device to counteract the effects,
turning the Autobots good and thwarting Megatron's diabolical scheme.
GREAT LINES
"Let's hope we don't finish with: third, bury Jazz!" - Jazz to Sparkplug
as they discuss the plan.
PLOT PROBLEMS
-
Right at the beginning of the episode, the Autobots run out to fight the
Decepticons. Then, two seconds later, Optimus Prime shows genuine
surprise when Skywarp and Thundercracker attack. He must have a lot
on his mind to forget that they were fighting the Decepticons while fighting
the Decepticons.
-
Megatron invents an invisibility spray just so he can sneak into the base?
Why not just walk in and plant it? Or here's a thought: try
turning invisible and then going in and killing them all. Nah, that'd
never work.
-
One satellite can somehow produce enough energy to power the Earth forever.
Yep, sounds about right to me.
-
As always, Megatron, for all his invisibility sprays and personality altering
devices and Space Bridges needs the worthless, measly humans to invent
the device he needs.
-
After the Autobots turn evil, suddenly Megatron's voice can be heard talking
to Teletran I and the Autobots. Just where is he exactly?
-
At one point, Jazz throws what looks like a dumbbell at Bluestreak.
It hits him and somehow knocks him unconscious. All it takes is a
brief thud to the chest to put these guys out of commission? Why
don't we see anyone else trying this tactic?
-
So once again we must ask the question: if Sparkplug was previously
an oil rig worker, how in the hell did he invent that Super Mind Switcheroo
Device? Not only that, but he builds it in just a matter of minutes.
-
If Megatron is planning on stealing the satellite, I can't possibly imagine
why he's also so bent on stealing the plans. Oh yeah, because it
helped to pad out the episode.
-
At the end of the episode, Bumblebee runs over to stick Sparkplug's miracle
device on Prime. But first he decides to give a nice, rousing speech
about how Optimus is good for no apparent reason when he should have just
stuck the damn thing on Prime.
-
The Decepticons need a rocket to get back to Cybertron? Why not just
fly or build another space cruiser? Or how about taking the Space
Bridge?
-
The scientist lady says that it's absolutely imperative that the satellite
be launched into orbit (apparently there's an energy crisis no one's heard
about), but at the end of the episode Optimus just hurls it into deep space.
Unless we're supposed to believe that this throw somehow put it into orbit,
which wouldn't make sense because then Megatron could just fly up and steal
it any time he wanted.
CHANGED PREMISES
-
The Autobots can fly again! Prowl, Ratchet, and Optimus all fly at
one point during the episode.
-
In what is no doubt becoming a repetitive cycle, Ratchet speaks with Gears's
voice.
-
The Autobot ship is back to only having three thrusters instead of the
five it originally having and the four or three it's had in every other
episode.
-
When Rumble activates his piledrivers, instead of "morphing" into them
like they normally do, his arms actually retract into his body and come
back out as the piledrivers.
ANIMATION FLUBS
-
After Megatron sprays Starscream to make him invisible, the spray gun vanishes.
Now that's an invisibility spray!
-
Bluestreak picks up Bumblebee and forces him into the recharging chamber/online
porn machine. As soon as he sets Bumblebee down, he has a gun in
his hand which he uses to fire on Jazz.
-
In yet another repetitive cycle, Optimus's transformations all come from
that early episode, possibly entitled "Autobot Square Dance." At
least during one of them they colored his eyes red for a slight change
of pace.
-
When Bumblebee is racing to the rocket base to save the day, both he and
the cloud of dust surrounding him freeze for a second.
-
Megatron breaks into the rocket base to make the rocket launch no matter
what. Almost nothing was animated right in this scene. At first
when he breaks in, there's people sitting at the computer stations.
Then he opens fire on them and there's nobody there. His blasts destroy
the computers. Then he tells Soundwave to interface with the computer.
Soundwave walks over to the suddenly completely restored computers and
there are people there again who run away. In a close up, Soundwave
bends over and begins to interface with the computers. Back in the
far shot, the computers are still restored and Soundwave is suddenly gone
even the computer screens are behaving like he's doing something.
-
As the Decepticons fly away at the end of the episode, one of the three
Reflector robots is painted like Frenzy.
Well thank PizzleWig for Sparkplug and his amazing amount of cybernetics
knowledge that he apparently acquired while pumping oil. Megatron's
plans are ruined, even though he still has invisibility spray and a way
to alter the Autobots' personalities. Let's see if he uses them next
time around in "Traitor."
